nano Keeping a Trim Waistline May Be All about the Feet

A common concern that I hear from women who are trying to lose weight is that the weight seems to be accumulating around their waist. Now there are two concerns with this. First is the appearance of it and how it affects the way our cloths fit and look, but the second concern is the health implications of it. In fact, to minimize the risk of heart disease, woman need to keep their waist lines less than 35 inches and men less than 40.

A research study that was funded by the National Institute of Health and lead by Kathryn Schmitz, an epidemiologist at the school of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania found that woman who weight trained two times a week could minimize their weight gain around their waist. The study looked at 164 women aged 24 – 44. There were two groups in the study and both were asked to not to change their diet. After two years, the weight training group had only a 7 percent increase in their central body fat, compared to a 21 percent increase in the non-weight training group.

So the message here is, regardless of age, if you are noticing you are sitting more and more each year and your waist line is growing, now just might be an excellent time to pick up some weight training.

Have a healthy day.
