Could it be possible that doctors have discovered a Type 3 Diabetes?
Diabetes is a disease where the body has a difficult time using the glucose that the liver makes. This glucose is one of the primary fuels for our bodies. Glucose requires a hormone called insulin to get from the blood to the cells. If the body doesn’t make insulin anymore, then it’s Type 1 Diabetes. If the body makes some insulin but it isn’t working right, it’s called Type 11 Diabetes.
Type 3 diabetes is being associated with Alzheimer’s disease. According to four studies, it appears that Alzheimer’s disrupts the body systems in similar ways as diabetes. One study demonstrated that participants with early or pre-Alzheimer’s, who took an oral Type 11 diabetic drug for six months, remained stable for that period of time. Those who did not take the medication, declined. It is hopeful that this link between the two diseases may pave the way for new treatment modalities for Alzheimer’s.
