A Little Bit of Coffee Just Might Be What Your Heart Needs
If you love that first cup of coffee in the morning there may now be a reason to have a second or even a third. According to researchers from the University of Minnesota drinking 1 to 3 cups of coffee per day may help protect against heart disease and other illnesses affected by inflammation.
Dr. David Jacobs and his colleagues studied over 27,000 women between the ages of 55 to 69 and then followed them for 15 years. According to their results there was a 24 percent reduction in inflammation related deaths in the woman who drank 1 to 3 cups of coffee a day.
Dr. Jacobs does note that he would like to see this research repeated in future studies before making a strong recommendation for the consumption of coffee. However he points out that coffee has already been identified as the single most important source of antioxidants in the diets of Norwegians.
So, if you have been feeling a little guilty about drinking your coffee in the morning, maybe now you can stop.
