nano Cranberries are a good choice for your health all year long

Researchers from the University of Wisconsin suggest cranberries may be a fruit to keep on hand all year long. Already know to help with urinary track infections, it now appears that cranberries may be important to your heart.

In new research, conducted on animals, cranberries were shown to be protective against heart disease. Cranberries contain compounds called antioxidants, flavonoids and polyphenols that improve blood vessel function. The researchers report this is important because it helped blood vessels to relax in subjects with high cholesterol and artherosclerosis.

Cranberries have also been shown to have a “positive effect on gum disease, ulcers and even cancer.”

A great way to incorporate more cranberries into your diet is with Craisins. Craisins are dried cranberries. If you add 2 tablespoons of Craisin to a ¼ cup of nuts, it makes an excellent morning or afternoon snack.

While the researchers decide what is the most important component of the cranberry, we just need to keep remembering to eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily.
