Lowering, not removing, fat from your diet can produce positive health effects
Continued research shows a reduction in the reoccurrence of breast cancer for individuals who consumed a low fat diet. A low fat diet was described as 30 grams or less of total fat daily.
With the prevalence of Atkin’s type diets, many individuals may not know how much fat is equal to 30 grams.
Using the Food Pyramid, most of the fat in the diet is found in the dairy, meat, fat and other’s groups. The other’s group contains snacks, sweets and fast foods. For example:

1 tsp of any type of fat like butter, margarine, or olive oil | 5 grams of fat |
1 tablespoon of these fats | 15 grams of fat |
8 oz of whole milk | 8 grams of fat |
8 oz of 1% milk | 2 grams of fat |
4 oz of extra lean ground beef has | 18 grams of fat |
4 oz of chicken breast w/o skin | 6 grams of fat

The fat in our food provides flavor and aroma. If you are considering reducing the fat in your diet remember to begin to experiment with herbs and spices. The herbs and spices can restore the flavor to your foods.
