nano With Type 2 diabetes becoming more prevelant, could you be at risk?

It is currently estimated that 18 million Americans have Type 2 Diabetes and unfortunately two out of every three do not have it under control. When Type 2 Diabetes is not under control it can lead to early death from stroke, heart attack or kidney failure as well as blindness and loss of limbs.

The first step in determining if you have diabetes is to talk to your physician. A simple blood test can help determine if you are at risk. A fasting blood sugar under 105 is considered my most to be in the normal range.

Now there is another test called A1C. The A1C test indicates average blood sugar levels over the past few months, unlike the fasting blood sugar which measures just the immediate level.

Type 2 Diabetes can often times be controlled with diet and exercise. On the diabetic diet there are no longer foods that are not tolerated. Even the sweets were included back in to the diabetic diet about ten years ago.

So, if you wonder if you or a loved one has diabetes I encourage you to speak to your physician. Simple modifications to your lifestyle now may prevent the onset of diabetes for many years or possible forever.
