nano Too much screen time for children may be a hazard to their health

The media’s focus on childhood obesity is helping to increase the awareness of parents, schools, community organizations as well as state and national leaders. This increased awareness will hopefully lead to solutions to help reverse this rising epidemic.

A key factor in fighting childhood obesity is to help children become more active. It is currently estimated that children are watching about three hours of television each day and then spend more than two additional hours each day in front of other screens such as video games and computers. In fact American children may now be spending more time each year in front of the television set than in the classroom.

In response to this inactivity a website to help create new ideas for entertainment fun has been developed. If you are concerned about your children’s or grandchildren’s weight and think it may be impart do to their inactivity I encourage you to look at this sight. The web address is, www.tvturnoff.org.

It is hoped that increasing the activity of our nation’s children can be the start to helping them achieve good health.
